Party in Ljubljana: Exploring the Clubbing Scene

Let’s start with one of the oldest underground clubs in Slovenia: Klub K4. This basement institution in the city center has been home to contemporary urban music for more than 30 years, mostly hosting House, Techno, Drum & Bass, Funk, Hip Hop, and the occasional Rock act. Check what’s on the program – through the year, they often also host a festival or two (such as MENT Ljubljana).

The Upbeats, Roman Flügel, and Helena Hauff are some of the artists that have already hit the K4 stage. The admission fee depends on the event, but usually ranges from 5 to 10€. However, it’s not only a music venue: it’s also a place for art workshops, exhibitions, and other social gatherings.

Božidar

Another basement venue is Božidar, which is sometimes a bar, sometimes a club, but always a place to socialize, as they would say themselves. It’s located beneath the Mladinsko Theatre, in a building designed by world-famous architect Jože Plečnik, whose work greatly impacted Ljubljana. This by itself is a reason to check it out. The club offers numerous live gigs, DJ sets, and other events. They mostly have Techno and House events, but you can also find some R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Funk rhythms. It’s only open during events, so make sure to check the program in advance.

Cirkus
Cirkus is one of the most popular clubs in Ljubljana. Genre-wise, it’s in the R&B, Hip Hop, and Electronic music sphere. Even though DJs there mostly play Dance hits, you can sometimes come across a Pop or even a Rock concert. Artists like Gramophonedzie, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Roger Sanchez, and local trap queen Senidah have performed here, and admission is usually about 8€.

Ljubljana’s pocket size makes it easy to get from location to location and experience music on a wide spectrum of genres.

TOP SIX
It’s time to switch gears. Like any capital in the world, Ljubljana’s music scene is influenced by different cultures. You can experience a taste of that at TOP SIX, which frequently hosts live performances by regional stars from the Balkans. If you like mainstream Dance music mixed with Balkan beats, this is the place for you. It’s located on the sixth floor, so it has a great view of the city. The admission fee ranges from 5 to 10€.

Club Pure

Like TOP SIX, PURE is a club for Balkan music fans. They also offer urban Hip Hop, Trap, and R&B beats and live performances by some of the biggest stars on the Balkan music scene. The club’s located a bit further from the city center and open on Fridays and Saturdays. You’ll have to pay about 10 to 20€ for admission on live performance nights.

If you’re in the city center and looking for more options, there are Pritličje, Centralna Postaja, and Shooters, among others. Luckily, a lot of places are within walking distance, which will make it easy to get from location to location.
