Godless Angel is a progressive blackened death metal project from Lawrence, Kansas, created in 2012 by multi-instrumentalist Derek. Writing, performing, and recording everything himself at his home studio, Sinister Sounds, he blends elements of death metal, black metal, and progressive extreme metal into a sound that is dark, atmospheric, and relentlessly heavy.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Immolation, Gorguts, Ulcerate, Portal, Deathspell Omega, and Blut Aus Nord, Godless Angel focuses on oppressive atmosphere, complex riff structures, and themes rooted in existential dread, cosmic horror, and philosophical darkness.
The project began releasing music in 2013 with the debut album Year One, followed by Dying Dead Undead Unholy (2014) and Harvester of Shadows (2015).
